When it comes to versatility, Apollo High School’s, Holland Woods is the definition of such. With his ability to be a one man fast break and finish at the rim or take on a larger opponent, one on one, and still manage to swish, his talent is an asset to any roster. He especially exudes confidence on defense. His hands are a blur with his back to his own rim; moving ever so quick and pickpocketing even the most agile dribblers. He had a exceptional showing at the BIBSI especially against the Mesa High Jackrabbits. With only six strong-willed competitors on their team, the Hawks (Apollo) accepted the challenge. Starting the game off with a 22-2 lead and by halftime holding a commanding lead of 44-12, Woods had already made a statement with 11 pts and 4 asts. They didn’t let off of the gas there either with a final score of 79-30. Finishing the game with a dominating performance, Woods: 23 pts, 6 asts, 4 stls; accompanied by his partner in crime Dre Marin: 32 pts, 10 stls. Apollo High also claimed victories over the likes of the Basha High Bears and the Cesar Chavez High Champions in the, “Best in Basketball Summer Invitational.”
